Homeworking tipped to boost VoIP demand

News Article - Friday, September 14, 2007 11:20
Filed under: Wireless & Mobile
An increase in homeworking may boost the demand for VoIP and hosted PBX, it has been suggested.

Research by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has found that in the last four years the number of firms allowing employees to work from home and link back into the office has risen from one in ten to nearly one in two (46 per cent).

Those who allowed homeworking did so by utilising VoIP telephony and a software PBX, the CBI found.

John Cridland, deputy director general of the CBI, said the news showed "how far and fast" firms had progressed in adopting IP technology.

He added that the number was likely to grow as this would help firms reduce their carbon footprint.

TMCnet declared this week that VoIP was a "revolutionary" service and "one of the greatest gifts of technological invention" for its ability to enable people to make long-distance calls at low cost.
