Wimbledon has adopted managed Ethernet services in order to easily increase and decrease the available bandwidth for different times of the year.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has adopted the Ethernet-over-fibre system which allows it to flex the bandwidth to cater for its needs across the year.
Exponential-e has provided the managed Ethernet services and was involved at each stage of consultancy and implementation on the project.
The AELTC has very seasonal needs for its internet, with only a fraction of the bandwidth being needed for 11 months of the year.
Jeff Lucas, IT director for the club, told ComputerWeekly: "We always try to ensure that we have sufficient bandwidth capacity to support our media. We have gradually increased this over the years."
A pay-as-you-go system has been adopted in order to reduce costs further.
In other news, Cisco and Comcast have tested their 100Gb Ethernet system, claiming to be the industry's first 100GE router interface.
