Unplanned changes to IT services are the biggest disruptions to business performance, a new survey has revealed.
The research from the Economist Intelligence Unit found many business disruptions are linked to changes in the IT system.
It also discovered the more changes that occurred in the IT systems, which went unchecked, the higher the chance of a data breach occurence.
Clint Witchalls, senior editor of the Economist Intelligence Unit, said: "Given that IT and business risk are so tightly linked, a lack of predictability for IT equates into a lack of predictability for the business."
Around 80 per cent of respondents think automating IT functions will free up time, in addition to releasing budget.
The link between IT and business was emphasised by three quarters of firms, who said they couple their enterprise and IT risk managements together.
Gartner has predicted India is gaining a larger sector of the managed IT services market, with the country now holding 2.4 per cent of the market, compared to 1.9 per cent in 2006.
