Mozilla is due to release the next version of Firefox imminently increasing its pressure on Microsoft.
The web browser has succeeded in creating an effective competition to Microsoft's Internet Explorer and they will raise the stakes further with the release of Firefox 3, reports IT Pro.
Beta testing of the new version has been completed and release to the general public is expected in the next two months.
Mike Schroepfer, vice president of engineering at Mozilla, told the computing website: "In many ways it [Firefox 3] is much more stable than anything else out there."
He added that the finishing touches to the product are being added and release will occur by the end of June.
New features include using less memory than its predecessor, increased security and allowing users to run website when not connected to the internet.
While the Beta version is currently available Mozilla are not recommending that anyone other that developers or testers download the upgrade.
