The practice of managed IT outsourcing is changing, with more firms looking to use it as a strategic tool rather than a cost-saving method.
According to the Wall Street Journal, fewer companies are seeing it as a way to cut costs or be more efficient, meaning the days of it being "a crutch for the technically deficient or work-force challenged company" are numbered.
Mr Roddam who works for Satyam, a business process outsourcing firm, told the newspaper: "It is becoming a matter of looking at the world as a marketplace of skills and products and deciding what gets done where the best."
Another trend in the managed IT outsourcing industry is Indian outsourcing firms setting up bases in the US, in order to provide "closer proximity" and enable them to "draw from the local talent pools", according to the Black Book of Outsourcing survey from the Brown Wilson Group.
Gartner recently found the key to successful outsourcing is customer satisfaction, rather than cost savings.
