The group quotes figures from industry analyst Gartner indicating that the IT and communications sector is currently responsible for approximately two per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions, the same proportion as the aviation industry.
Chief executive of the group Alan Calder said many global companies now view green initiatives as necessary to staying competitive.
"Now businesses realise that they can make long-term savings and increase operational efficiencies through implementing greener ways of working, especially around technology," he added.
