Managed bandwidth suppliers could benefit from the digital switchover which begins at the end of this year.
Ofcom, the communications industry regulator, has said UHF bandwidth will be spare after analogue channels are switched off.
This could be used by broadband companies who want to take advantage of some of the 128 MHz of available spectrum on they system.
An auction for the spare capacity will be held in 2009, with it being made available in stages between now and 2012, when the switchover is due to be completed.
UHF, which is currently used to carry television channel content, can hold a large amount of information over a long distance.
It is thought the licenses for the spare capacity will be changeable and tradable over time.
The Broadband Stakeholder Group said yesterday advancements in the broadband industry are worth the high costs needed to roll it out and without them the UK may fall behind other countries.
